Purpose-Why your team needs it
“Profit isn’t a purpose, it’s a result. To have purpose means the things we do are of real value to others.”
-Simon Sinek
I love Simon’s wisdom in this comment because the importance of purpose is so overlooked in the business world. As human beings, we need a sense of true purpose to feel valued and to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. So as a leader in your organization, give your teams a sense of why the team exists, how critical they are to the bigger picture of WHY your organization exists and help them understand their unique value. Profit will follow. If you have a dream, work towards it. Work hard. Regret is a terrible feeling. Believe in yourself. All of the successful people out there decided that they wanted something and went after it. If you do nothing, nothing will happen. Get moving now.
Purpose is such a strong need we all have (think of author Dan Pink’s work) and yet many of us take decades to understand its importance to our authenticity, success and happiness. These quotes can only help give thought to this important driver of success:
“You can’t drift your way to the top of a mountain” -Rohn
“Without knowing what I am and why I am here, life is impossible.”- Leo Tolstoy
“Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life… Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated. Thus, everyone’s task is as unique as is his specific opportunity to implement it.” – Viktor Frankl
“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.” ― Eleanor Roosevelt
We hope that this approach provides you value. If you need more help for you and your team to increase leadership capacity, team performance or employee engagement, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
